southeastern LogoSoutheastern Rail has been using Lockit-safe to manufacture and install its cycle parking provision since 2008. In the last decade, we have worked on over 50 stations throughout the network area. In October 2019, we completed another phase of installs at 11 stations.

The requirements at each station were different. Some had no cycle parking and others had old parking that needed upgrading. There was a mixture of shelter types from simple bike shelters to secure access control two-tier cycle compounds with CCTV and lighting. Some of the stations also required fencing, bollards and cycle pumps and repair stations.

As with all rail projects, one of our main challenges is the working environment. We were required to work across peak and non-peak times and keep any disruption to rail passengers to a minimum. Often the work was taking place alongside live tracks, so health & safety was paramount. In addition, on many of the sites, access was poor.

The 11 stations included were: Kockholt, Strood (2 areas), Shoreham, Kemsing, Sole Street, Maidstone, Aylesham, Chilham, Wye, West St Leonards and Sundridge Park.

The project was turned around in 12 weeks.
