Improving cycle parking for local schools for Dorset LA
Dorset Local Authority was working in conjunction with Sustrans to upgrade and provide addition cycle parking facilities to local schools. The Local Authority appointed Lockit-safe to not only provide the cycle parking facilities but also to work with the schools assessing their requirements, doing site surveys and carrying out any necessary groundworks.
THE SOLUTION
There were 13 schools involved and Lockit-Safe carried out site visits with the council prior to quotation to ensure that the specification matched the need and environment. This allowed us to provide the Local Authority with fixed and accurate pricing.
During these site visits we established –
- If any ground enabling works were needed
- Correct product specification versus site specific requirements
- Any site specific Health & Safety risks
- Site access issues
For these 13 schools we provided 19 cycle shelters and cycle compounds equating to 280 cycle parking spaces. At 3 of the schools we had to install concrete bases for the shelters to be mounted on. The schools had a choice of different cycle shelters and bike compounds to suit their needs and preferences. Some sites already had existing cycle stands so, for cost efficiency, these were covered with our cycle shelters.
In addition we also put the school logo onto each of the school cycle shelters and provided cycle locks and high visibility bands for every cycle space to further support the schools and Sustrans in their campaign to encourage more children cycling to school safely.
The entire programme was delivered within a 4 week timetable. This included manufacture/fabrication, groundworks, delivery and installation
