Lockit-safe were asked to increase the capacity of an existing underground cycle parking area in the city centre of Aberdeen. The project was commissioned by Aberdeen City Council, who are a long established Lockit-safe customer.

OUR SOLUTION

aberdeen city council logoThe current cycle parking area used cycle stands. We were able to double the capacity by replacing with gas assisted two tier racks. We also installed a cycle pump and repair stand to further enhance the facilities for cyclists.

The area can now accommodate 82 cycles.

Due to the location the installation was complex, as the area not only had access restrictions, we also had to keep some cycle parking available for users whilsts the works were going on.

We tackled this by splitting the installation into two phases so that some cycle parking remained at all times. Deliveries were staggered and scheduled for 5am so as to avoid commuters and traffic.

With the increased height of the two tier racks we also had to relocate some of the lighting to ensure it didn’t clash with bikes when parked on the top tier.

This was a scheduled 5 day installation which we managed to complete in 4, one day ahead of schedule!
