Creating a bespoke walkway
With the airline FlyBe starting new routes from Doncaster Sheffield Airport, investment was being made at the airport for improved passenger comfort. As a result of the Southend Airport project, Lockit-safe were appointed to design, manufacture and install a bespoke walkway that wold provide weather protection for passengers whilst walking to and from the aircrafts.
THE SOLUTION
The walkway was 55m in total and ran along the side of the terminal building. This was a new structure and included a central divide to separate inbound and outbound passengers, lighting and glazing
The timescale for the project was 6 weeks and all works were carried out whilst the airport was fully operational. Because the construction was airside, our team were subject to the same security provisions as the passengers including the need for passports / ID, security checks and the carrying of liquids.
