Upgrading the cycle parking facilities at Debden and Buckhurst Hill Underground stations

As part of the Transport for London cycle parking framework, Lockit-Safe have upgraded the cycle parking facilities at two London Underground stations on the Central Line.

Debden and Buckhurst Hill stations in Essex had cycle parking facilities that were totally inadequate for the needs of their passengers.

At Debden more parking spaces were required as the existing cycle shelter did not offer enough space, causing parked cycles to spill over onto an adjacent area in the car park.

It was a similar story at Buckhurst Hill with the demand for cycle parking exceeding what the old bike shelter could provide.

THE SOLUTION

At Debden Station we designed a bespoke cycle shelter to mirror the shape of the existing shelter and use the area to the side which wasn’t an official car parking space so did have a problem of illegally parked cars.

The new bike shelter had a curved polycarbonate roof and room for 10 additional cycle parking spaces.

At Buckhurst Hill we were replacing the old cycle shelter with a new two tier bike shelter as they needed additional cycle parking spaces but could not dedicate further space to an additional or larger cycle shelter. By using our two tier bike rack system we doubled the amount of cycle parking spaces in the same footprint and then integrated a polycarbonate roof to give some weather protection to cycles and cyclists.
