Install new two tier cycle parking to York Station
York station is extremely busy with high demand from passengers for cycle parking. Their current provisions consisted of Sheffield stands on one platform and it was very overcrowded.
As with all station environments, space is a premium so York station came to Lockit-Safe with a brief to provide space saving two tier cycle parking in two locations.
THE SOLUTION
Cycle parking was needed for 160 bikes and this was split over two locations:
- In the short stay car park
- In Prestige customer parking area
As both areas required the use of valuable car park spaces, keeping the footprint to a minimum was vital. Lockit-Safe’s two tier bike racks resulted in the loss of only 12 car park spaces to accommodate 160 cycles.
There was also the requirement for additional access control on the Prestige parking area as these were passengers who paid a premium for parking close to the platform. For this area, we integrated a compound around the two tier cycle parking system so it can be a managed facility with a daily charge applied. Lockit-Safe provided the access control system and the area is managed by Cycle Heaven.We also took the opportunity to ‘tidy up’ the original cycle parking area with the installation of 26 additional Sheffield cycle stands and a further 6 Sheffield cycle stands in the staff parking area. As with all work in a station environment, Health & Safety was paramount due to the proximity of trains and high voltage lines.
We also installed a temporary compound on the station during the works where all product could be securely stored so there were no delays due to deliveries at installation stage and so keeping disruption to the station and passengers at a minimum.
