400th BikeNest Installed in Lambeth as Lockit-safe Milestone Reached

Lockit-safe has reached a key milestone in its ongoing rollout of on-street secure cycle parking across Lambeth, installing the 400th BikeNest as part of the borough’s ambitious active travel programme.

Installed at Woodleigh Gardens, outside 43/45, the latest BikeNest marks a significant step in the three-year framework agreement to deliver 760 units in total—offering residents across Lambeth safe, secure and accessible locations to store their bikes near home.

Supporting Active Travel at Street Level

Cycle theft and lack of storage remain key barriers to cycling for many urban residents. The Lambeth BikeNest rollout, delivered in partnership with Lockit-safe, helps remove that barrier—encouraging greener travel and reducing car dependency across the borough.

Lockit-safe is currently installing an average of 20 BikeNests per week, with the project on track for early completion, echoing the successful ahead-of-schedule delivery under the West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA) framework.

Advanced Planning, Flexible Installation

Delivering secure cycle storage in live residential streets demands strategic planning and logistical precision. A crucial part of the Lambeth project involves coordinating parking permits for each site. In many cases, Lockit-safe applies for overlapping permits, giving install teams the ability to adapt if parking bays are occupied by vehicles.

If a bay is unavailable, the team quickly switches to a pre-approved backup location, ensuring uninterrupted progress and minimal disruption for local residents.

Each BikeNest installation is brought online swiftly, with the units going live the following Tuesday, allowing residents to reserve their space without delay.

Progress and What’s to Come

With over half the framework delivered, the project continues at pace. Every unit installed represents a step towards cleaner air, improved security, and greater access to cycling infrastructure.

“This milestone reflects the impact of careful planning and a shared commitment to sustainable transport,” said Craig Sime, Director at Lockit-safe. “We’re proud to be playing our part in delivering lasting infrastructure that supports people to cycle more and drive less.”
