Major Cycle Hub Underway at Richmond Station with Emico and Lockit-safe

Lockit-safe is proud to announce its involvement in what is set to become one of the UK’s largest and most ambitious cycle parking structures, located at Richmond Station in collaboration with Emico Construction for South Western Railway.

This purpose-built, three-storey cycle hub will provide secure, modern facilities for up to 658 bicycles, significantly improving end-of-journey infrastructure for commuters and promoting active travel in West London.

A Landmark Project in Sustainable Transport Infrastructure

Once completed, the new cycle hub will feature:

  • 658 two-tier cycle parking spaces
  • Drop-and-go stands for short-term parking
  • A public cycle pump and repair station to support daily maintenance
  • Wheel ramps integrated into stairwells to enable access across all three levels

The sheer scale of the project is impressive—totalling 64 tonnes of structural steel, it’s a beacon of modern, secure cycle storage in a high-footfall commuter location.

The hub will be enclosed with a contemporary mix of glazing and steel panel cladding, topped with a waterproof membrane roofing system to ensure year-round protection. Together, these features provide not only robust functionality but also a visual enhancement to the station’s surrounding environment.

Progress and What’s to Come

With construction now at the halfway point, the project is progressing steadily. Artist impressions show the striking final design, and on-site activity reflects Lockit-safe’s expertise in delivering high-spec cycle infrastructure in live, complex environments.

“This is not just about bike parking—it’s about embedding sustainable transport choices into the daily lives of rail users,” said Craig Sime Director of Lockit Safe

Stay tuned as we release a full case study upon completion, highlighting the innovation, logistics and collaboration that underpin this landmark project.
